Written Answers. - Army Barracks.

Joe Higgins

Question:

130 Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) asked the Minister for Defence the works, if any, which he has authorised on the Curragh camp that remain to be carried out. [23144/97]

Environmental improvement works to enhance the appearance of the Curragh lands are in the process of completion. Building and engineering projects for the Curragh Camp to the value of about £2 million commenced this year and will be completed in 1998. These include upgrading of accommodation, boiler replacements, improvement to operational areas, painting, tarmacadam and an on-going energy-management programme. Tenders have been received in relation to a further project which will provide special storage facilities for equipment at the camp and it is hoped to place a contract shortly. Further building projects at the camp are likely to be included in the 1998 programme which has yet to be finalised.
