Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Michael Ring

Question:

131 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when an appeal for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be finalised. [22591/97]

The herdowner has lodged an appeal with the headage and premia appeals unit concerning his 1997 cattle headage application. Appeals are dealt with in the order in which they are received and it is expected that his case will be concluded shortly. The herdowner will be notified of the outcome.

Ivan Yates

Question:

132 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if an overpayment for a person (details supplied) in County Wexford will be set aside in view of the fact that the beef premium, while being paid on females, was not actually paid in the form of suckler cow for the same animals; and if this will be equalised in order that no further deductions would be made from him. [22592/97]

The person named applied for suckler cow premium on 16 cows in May 1996. Following computer cross-checking of tagnumbers it was discovered that 11 of these animals were included in the special beef premium application of the person named submitted in November 1993. A further three animals from the same herd were also applied on for special beef premium and these subsequently appeared in other herds and were confirmed as being suckler cows. Therefore as the 14 animals in question are females and the special beef premium is confined to male animals only, the overpayments made under the special beef premium scheme will have to be recouped. This will be done directly from the person named or from other payments which fall to be made to him under Department livestock schemes.

Dan Neville

Question:

136 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the current position regarding the provision of a quota for a person (details supplied) in County Limerick who has filled his milk quota and has been restricted since the end of March 1997 from selling animals due to disease problems; if he will make a statement on the matter in view of the severe difficulties this person is in and he was obliged to milk 12 heifers which he had tested to sell at the time of the outbreak of disease. [22622/97]

An application for a temporary allocation of milk quota under the animal disease "flexi milk" allocations 1997-98 has been submitted to the milk quota appeals tribunal by the person named. The application will be considered by the tribunal following receipt of a response to the queries on this case raised by my Department.
