Vol. 485 No. 2

Written Answers. - Ordnance Survey.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

194 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Finance the plans, if any, he has for the upgrading of rural mapping by the Ordnance Survey; his views on whether it is an urgent priority in the context of the developing information society; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23056/97]

An interim board was established by the previous Minister for Finance to consider the future of the Ordnance Survey. The interim board is currently examining that body and its report is expected in due course. While I am concerned about the need to upgrade rural mapping, in the circumstances it is prudent to await the outcome of the interim board's deliberations before I make any decision in relation to priorities to be pursued by the Ordnance Survey.
