Vol. 485 No. 2

Written Answers. - Roads Funding.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

257 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has received an application from Kerry County Council for funds for the upgrading of the road leading from Park Road, Killarney, County Kerry to the Spa GAA field, Killarney, County Kerry; and when he will make a decision in relation to this application. [22902/97]

I assume that the question refers to local road number 637, Spa/Tiernaboul. An application to improve this road is among 13 applications costing £3.011 million received in my Department from Kerry County Council for consideration for funding under the EU co-financed grants scheme in 1998. All applications under this scheme are currently under examination in my Department. Grant allocations, which I intend to announce as early as possible, in 1998 will have regard to compliance with the strict EU eligibility criteria, the priority attached to particular projects, the funds available and the needs of different areas.
