Vol. 485 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Liam Aylward

Question:

347 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will agree to reroute the school bus service for persons (details supplied) in County Kilkenny. [22738/97]

The school in question is served by a bus operating a double trip. In the evening the first service departs at 2.00 p.m. and the second trip departs at 3.00 p.m.

The children referred to by the Deputy live on the route of the service which leaves at 3.00 p.m. This later service facilitates both junior and senior pupils who live on this route, and who finish at the official school closing time of 3.00 p.m.

These pupils are provided with a satisfactory level of service which is well within my Department's guidelines. Accordingly, I regret that it is not open to my Department to reroute the earlier service for these pupils.
