Vol. 485 No. 2

Written Answers. - Committee on Sellafield.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

15 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if the Government committee on Sellafield and the Irish Sea has been established on foot of the Government decision on 21 October 1997; if so, the names of the members of this committee; when this committee has met; how often the committee has met; and the decisions made by the committee to date in 1997; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [22779/97]

As I pointed out in my response in the Dáil to Question No. 27 on 12 November 1997, it is envisaged that the committee will be chaired by me. I will invite the following to participate in the committee: Deputy Molloy, Minister of State at the Department of the Environment and Local Government; Deputy O'Donnell, Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs; Deputy Byrne, Minister of State at the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources; Deputy Moffatt, Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children.

I expect to convene a meeting of the committee early in the new year to discuss a number of issues relating to radiological protection and the Government's campaign against Sellafield.
