Vol. 485 No. 3

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Allen — the need to appoint an independent legal ombudsman in place of the part-time adjudicator appointed and funded by the Law Society to investigate complaints from the public against members of the Incorporated Law Society; (2) Deputy Deenihan — the necessity to review the level of higher education maintenance grants in view of increasing costs and the resulting hardship for students from lower income families; (3) Deputy Perry — the necessity for additional funding to be made available for Sligo Regional Airport; (4) Deputy Broughan — the urgent need to regulate late night and all night trading in residential areas such as at Donaghmede shopping centre, Dublin 13; (5) Deputy Gay Mitchell — the need to co-ordinate an overall response in a comprehensive and sensitive way to the needs of immigrants in Ireland and the needs of the host community to defuse potential racial tensions; (6) Deputy Gerard Reynolds — the proposals, if any, the Minister for the Environment and Local Government has to reduce the acreage of land for which planning permission is required when planting trees; (7) Deputy Naughten — the need to review planning regulations for mobile telephone masts and (8) Deputy Neville — the need to provide child care facilities in third level institutions.

The matters raised by Deputies Broughan, Gerard Reynolds, Gay Mitchell and Deenihan have been selected for discussion.
