Question:

261 Mr. Browne (Wexford) asked the Minister for Education and Science the plans, if any, he has to approve an extension to a secondary school (details supplied) in County Wexford to deal with overcrowding; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23277/97]

My Department's planning and building unit has recently provided grant-aid to the school in question for the provision of five additional general classrooms in prefabricated accommodation to cater for the school's immediate and short-term accommodation requirements.

My Department is also currently addressing the conversion of an existing classroom space into an additional science laboratory for this school.

The extension project at St. Peter's College, Wexford is proceeding through architectural design in accordance with my Department's design team procedures.

It is my intention to consider each major project when it reaches the stage of proceeding to tender and construction in light of available resources.
