Vol. 485 No. 3

Written Answers. - Crafts Council.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

80 Mr. Sargent asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the policy reasons, if any, which lie behind the decision to move the administration of the Crafts Council to Kilkenny. [23392/97]

As a private limited company, it was the board of the Crafts Council of Ireland which took the decision to consolidate its administration function in Kilkenny. This decision, an internal matter for the company and not one in which I have any direct function, was approved by the board last June. I understand, however, that it was taken with a view to achieving cost savings which will be used to promote the council's primary objective of developing the crafts sector in Ireland.
