Vol. 485 No. 4

Written Answers. - Horse and Greyhound Racing Industries.

Michael Ferris

Question:

26 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the plans, if any, he has to transfer control of the horse and greyhound racing industries to the Department of Tourism, Sport and Recreation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21498/97]

I have no such plans. The horse and greyhound racing industries differ from other sporting activities in that they are inextricably linked with significant economic sectors namely the breeding, rearing and training of horses and greyhounds.

These activities are primarily agriculture based and fall within the remit of the Minister for Agriculture and Food.
