Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Freedom of Information Act.

John Bruton

Question:

162 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if her Department and each body under the aegis of her Department have complied with sections 15 and 16 of the Freedom of Information Act, 1997; and the location where the documents required under these sections may be obtained by members of the public. [1246/98]

: The Freedom of Information Act, 1997 requires that public bodies listed in sub-paragraphs 1 and 2 of the First Schedule of that Act, must prepare and cause to be published on or before 21 April 1998, information in compliance with sections 15 and 16. My Department is currently preparing this material which will be made available before 21 April 1998.

The Companies Registration Office, the Competition Authority, the Office of the Director of Consumer Affairs, the Office of the Registrar of Friendly Societies and the Patents Office are public bodies separate to the Department for the purposes of this Act. I can, however, confirm that these bodies are preparing material which will also be available before 21 April 1998.

It is the intention of the Department to make the publications widely available and how this can be achieved is being considered at present.
