202 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the proposals for legislation being prepared under the auspices of his Department where heads have been approved by Government; the expected date of publication; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1003/98]

The following are the proposals for legislation in preparation, where heads have been approved by Government.

Oil Pollution of the Sea (Civil Liability and Compensation) (Amendment) Bill

To amend the Oil Pollution of the Sea (Civil Liability and Compensation) Act, 1988, to enable Ireland to give effect to the 1992 protocols to the international convention on civil liability for oil pollution damage, 1969 and the international convention on the establishment of an international fund for compensation for oil pollution damage, 1971.

First quarter, 1998.

Foyle Fisheries Commission Bill

To update legislation in agreement with Northern Ireland authorities.

Late 1998

Pollution of the Sea by Hazardous and Noxious Substances (Civil Liability and Compensation) Bill

To give effect to the international convention on liability and compensation for damage in connection with the carriage of hazardous and noxious substances by sea, 1996; and to give effect to the protocol to the international convention on limitation of liability for maritime claims, 1996.

Mid to late 1998.
