Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Fish Kills.

Michael Finucane

Question:

271 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if the scientific investigation into the Mulcair fish kill has been finalised; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2060/98]

The investigation to which the Deputy refers concerning the Mulcair fish kill commenced in early December and is expected to last two years.

The aim of the investigation is to see what lessons can be learned from the fish kill in order to avoid any similar recurrence. A committee has been established by the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board to ensure that all interested parties, i.e., local authorities, farmers and anglers, in the Mulcair catchment area have an input in this investigation.
