Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - ESB Power Stations.

Enda Kenny

Question:

324 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the discussions, if any, she has had with the Electricity Supply Board on the future of the peat burning station at Bellacorick, County Mayo in view of her recent announcement regarding the development of a new peat burning station in the midlands; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1408/98]

As previously indicated to the Deputy, the future of the Bellacorick peat-fired power station is a matter in the first instance for the owners, the ESB.

I have received no firm proposals from ESB regarding its future. However, they have advised me that they intend to undertake a feasibility study around the year 2000 to determine the condition of the plant and assess the options for its future.
