Written Answers. - Departmental Strategy Statements.

Question:

325 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Public Enterprise when she will publish a revised strategy statement for the operations under the aegis of her Department; whether her attention has been drawn to the article in Administration (Volume 45, number 3) published by the Institute of Public Administration; whether a customer services plan or charter has been published by her; if so, the way in which this has been publicised; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Public Enterprise (Mrs. O'Rourke):

The next statement of strategy for my Department is in preparation at present and a draft is due to be submitted to me by the Secretary General within the next few weeks. The final document is due to be laid before the Houses of the Oireachtas within 60 days of approval by me and will be published.

My Department has received a copy of the article referred to in the Deputy's question. The authors make some useful comments on the last statement of strategy issued by my Department and their suggestions will be taken into account in preparing the next document.

A customer service action plan was published by me on 23 November 1997. I issued a press release drawing attention to the plan and distributed copies to all staff and on request to others.

Met Éireann published its own customer service action plan on 2 December 1997.
