Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Noxious Weeds Legislation.

John Gormley

Question:

469 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the plans, if any, there are to review legislation concerning noxious weeds. [1985/98]

I have no plans to review the legislation, which was introduced at a time when noxious weeds were a serious threat to farm productivity. Modern farming has now reached a level at which weed control is a fundamental and automatic element in good farm practice. Agro-chemicals and machinery are readily available to farmers for controlling noxious weeds.
