Question:

494 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Finance if he will give details of moneys given by his Department to charities for each of the years from 1990 to date in 1998; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1237/98]

The only moneys given to charities by my Department in the period from 1990 to 1998 was a total of £4,552 million paid in 1997 from the national lottery surplus to private charitable lotteries in direct competition with the national lottery.
