Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

72 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Finance the Government's current policy of relocation of Government offices. [20243/97]

The extended decentralisation programme was announced in 1991. To date about 3,500 personnel have relocated under the programme.

Approximately 630 further personnel are in the process of decentralising to the remaining, designated centres. It is expected that the relocation process will be complete in about two years time. Of a total of about 29,000 civil servants, about 16,500 are located in Dublin and about 12,500 are located outside Dublin. The Government is committed to completing the ongoing decentralisation programme.
