Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Valuation Office Staff.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

71 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Finance if he will resolve the dispute which is crippling the work in the Valuation Office due to his failure to approve additional staff; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1185/98]

Question:

99 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for Finance his views on the industrial dispute in the Valuation Office; the course of action, if any, he will take to settle this dispute in view of the devastating effects that this dispute will have for local authorities and commercial rate payers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1193/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 71 and 99 together.

The trade union IMPACT, which represents valuer grades in the Valuation Office, initiated industrial action last August in relation to the non-filling of a vacancy for Chief Staff Valuer in the office. I am pleased to report that following discussions between management and the union, agreement was reached on a basis for resolving the dispute. The proposals were put to union members in a ballot and were accepted. These proposals will be implemented without delay.
