Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Waste Disposal.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

90 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Finance if the Office of Public Work are disposing of waste lamps, in particular, fluorescent bulbs in accordance with the Waste Management Act, 1996 with particular regard to hazardous waste material; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1954/98]

It is the practice of the Office of Public Works to dispose of waste lamps, including fluorescent bulbs, in full compliance with the 1996 Waste Management Act.

The Office of Public Works in its general specifications also requires contractors to comply with this Act, by disposing of hazardous waste to companies holding the relevant local authority permit and complying with EU (Waste) Regulations 1979, EU (Toxic Dangerous Waste) Regulations 1982 and the Waste Management Act, 1996.
