Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Budgetary Measures.

Andrew Boylan

Question:

96 Mr. Boylan asked the Minister for Finance the measures, if any, included in his Budget Statement which require approval by the EU Commission; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1918/98]

The following measures which were announced in the budget will have to be approved by the EU Commission: tax relief on investment in renewable energy, the special scheme for investment in quality hotels in seven counties in the North and North West, and the pilot scheme of reliefs to apply in the Upper Shannon region (rural renewal).

Further measures which were announced in the budget may need to be notified to the EU Commission, such as the extension of the pilot scheme for certain resort areas and the relief introduced for investment in private nursing homes. Informal contact has already been made by officials of my Department with the Commission in regard to most of these measures and a meeting is to be held between officials and the Commission in the near future to decide which of these measures will require formal notification and approval.
