Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Lottery Funding.

Michael Ferris

Question:

98 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Finance the percentage of lottery funding which has been allocated for the provision of sports facilities for each of the years from 1995 to date in 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21504/97]

While responsibility for sport rests with the Minister for Sport, Recreation and Tourism I have overall responsibility for the national lottery. The percentage of lottery allocations for sport, recreation and amenities was approximately as follows: 1995, 17.8 per cent; 1996, 17.7 per cent; 1997, 17.9 per cent. These figures represent the percentage of lottery allocations spent by the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation and his predecessor, the Minister for Sport at the Department of Education, and the allocations for swimming pools on the Environment Vote and the Asgard and Army Equitation moneys on the Defence Vote.

The corresponding estimate figure for 1998 is approximately 25.7 per cent.
