Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

855 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Education and Science whether he has decided to commence a second level school on the site owned by his Department at Kingswood, Dublin 24; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1429/98]

I have asked the planning section of my Department to report on the need for the provision of a post primary school to serve the Kingswood area of Dublin 24, and I expect to have this report shortly. I hope then to be in a position to take a decision in the matter.

Question:

856 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will report on progress made in providing a PE hall for a school (details supplied) in Dublin 24; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1430/98]

A major building project at the school referred to by the Deputy is included in my Department's capital programme for planning. The project includes the provision of a general purposes hall.

My Department's architectural staff have completed the initial stages of the architectural planning for the project and a copy of the sketch scheme drawings were forwarded to the school manager for consideration. The manager has recently been in contact with my Department and has suggested alterations to the proposed scheme. The feasibility of the suggested alterations is currently being examined and the manager will be contacted again in this regard as soon as possible.

When all the necessary planning work has been completed, a decision on the timing of the tender and contract process will be taken in the light of other priority projects and available financial resources.
