Question:

872 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of areas where concessionary school transport applies within the Ballygar catchment area to other post primary centres. [1466/98]

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 870, 871 and 872 together.

There is one area in County Roscommon, Ballygar post-primary catchment area, where school transport from another post-primary centre encroaches. Pupils from the Ballygar catchment area currently avail of catchment boundary transport to two adjoining post-primary centres.

My Department is not aware of any encroachment by the school transport vehicles serving the Ballygar post-primary centre into adjoining catchment areas.

The Deputy will be aware from his recent meeting with Minister of State, Deputy O'Dea, that my Department is currently reviewing the situation at Ballygar.
