Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

Liz McManus

Question:

897 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will consider favourably the application for a grant from a school (details supplied) in County Wicklow in view of the great need for structural improvements to the school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1627/98]

My Department's planning and building unit has received an application for grant-aid towards the cost of improvements at this school. Certain items are maintenance matters and accordingly are covered under the capitation grant. Other minor works fall within the scope of the new minor grants scheme and the school authorities have been notified of this. However, my Department's technical advisers are investigating other outstanding items and when their report and recommendationis are to hand my Department will be in touch with the board of management. The school authorities have been advised of the foregoing in a recent letter.
