Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Allen — the need to appoint an independent legal ombudsman in place of the part-time adjudicator appointed and funded by the Law Society to investigate complaints from the public against members of the Incorporated Law Society itself; (2) Deputy Gay Mitchell — the need to co-ordinate an overall response, in a comprehensive and sensitive way, to the needs of immigrants to Ireland and to the needs of the host community so as to diffuse potential racial tensions; (3) Deputy Hayes — the need to establish a commission on the status of men and commission an inquiry to address the problems that men face in society; (4) Deputy Dukes — the threatened closure of the Borden Plant in Athy, County Kildare; (5) Deputy McGinley — an ráiteas ó R.M.T. go bhfuil céad tríocha oibrí ag cailleadh a bpostanna ar an Eastát Tionscail i nGaoth Dobhair; (6) Deputy Spring — the investigation of a murder in County Cork of a person (details supplied); (7) Deputy Lawlor — the level of financial and other assistance that the Government may be in a position to provide towards securing the safety of the reactor at Chernobyl in the Ukraine; (8) Deputy Sargent — the need to outline the procedures being followed in relation to the use of patients at St. Ita's Hospital for experimentation; (9) Deputy Gormley — the need to discuss the criticisms of the Irish National Petroleum Corporation expressed in the Environmental Protection Agency report on the recent oil spillage in Cork Harbour; (10) Deputy Wall — the need to set up a task force to secure new industry for the South Kildare region in light of recent closures and the possible closure of Borden Limited; (11) Deputy Broughan — the need to end the C45 system of tax collection for certain trades in the construction industry given the serious allegations of tax evasion and other abuses in that industry; (12) Deputy Owen — the issuing of letters by a GP to the parents of mentally handicapped young people in St. Ita's Hospital, Portrane, County Dublin asking permission to carry out medical experiments; (13) Deputy Noonan — the need to establish whether certain offshore accounts in National Irish Bank were used for the purpose of tax evasion and the discussions, if any, the Minister for Finance has had with the Revenue Commissioners concerning their powers to investigate these accounts.

The matters raised by the Deputies Noonan, Owen, Gay Mitchell and Spring have been selected for discussion.
