Vol. 486 No. 3

Written Answers. - Infrastructural Development.

John Bruton

Question:

197 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government his views on infrastructural development in Waterford. [21158/97]

Investment by my Department in infrastructural development in Waterford is continuing. Examples include: my Department's 1998 water and sewerage services investment programme where some £54 million is being invested in a range of local projects, including the East Waterford water supply scheme, the Waterford main drainage scheme and the Tramore sewerage scheme, which are currently at various stages of planning or development; grant assistance of some £4.1 million in 1996 for the maintenance and upkeep of non-national roads in Waterford, rising to almost £4.8 million in 1997; and some £1.6 million under the urban and village renewal sub-programme of the EU Operational Programme for Local Urban Renewal and Development over the period since 1994.

This expenditure, together with ongoing investment in social housing, and in the improvement and maintenance of the national roads network by the National Roads Authority, is underpinning ongoing social and economic development in the Waterford area.
