Vol. 486 No. 3

Written Answers. - Roads Funding.

Ivan Yates

Question:

200 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government whether a regional road (details supplied) in County Wexford has been approved for specific funding by his Department in earmarked funds to Wexford County Council; and if he will give this approval to ensure that the necessary works are completed. [2494/98]

Enniscorthy UDC have submitted three proposals to my Department for funding in 1998 totalling £500,000 under the EU co-financed scheme of grants. These applications include one for funding of £150,000 for the R702 Bellefield, Enniscorthy.

This application, together with all other applications under the EU co-financed scheme are currently under consideration in my Department. Discussions in relation to the selection of projects will depend on their compliance with EU eligibility criteria, the need to prioritise projects, competing demands from other local authorities and the funds available for the scheme in 1998.

I intend to announce the 1998 grant allocations, including EU co-financed specific grants, to individual local authorities in the very near future.
