Written Answers. - All-Irish Schools.

Seán Haughey

Question:

270 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will give the go ahead to Coiste Meanscoil Oirthuaisceart regarding their plans to establish an all-Irish secondary school in the Dublin north-east following discussions with his Department in January 1998; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2442/98]

Richard Bruton

Question:

280 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will give an update of his assessment of the submission in support of an all-Irish second level school in Dublin north-east; and when a decision to sanction this proposal will be announced. [2533/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 270 and 280 together.

I refer the Deputies to my reply to Dáil Question No. 943 on Wednesday, 28 January 1998. In that reply, I indicated that a review of the need for all-Irish postprimary facilities in the Dublin north-east area was being carried out by the planning section of my Department.

The review is now nearing completion and I expect that a report and recommendation in the matter will be submitted to me for consideration very shortly.
