I propose to take Questions Nos. 278 and 298 together.
I am pleased to inform the Deputies that the matter of filling a grade B post of responsibility at the school to which they refer was finally determined in late November 1997. Sanction to appoint a grade B post holder in accordance with Circular 6/97 was issued on 23 January 1998 to the chairperson of the school's board of management.
The nature of this case required that my Department deal with the matter sensitively and examine carefully files which had been consigned to the Department's archives. While the thoroughness of the inquiry delayed the final decision, unfortunately this was unavoidable.
