Vol. 486 No. 3

Written Answers. - Second Level Schools.

Richard Bruton

Question:

286 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of schools which solely provide senior cycle secondary education; the number of these which are located in disadvantaged areas; and the plans, if any, he has to grant disadvantaged areas status to these schools. [2539/98]

There are seven schools which provide senior cycle second level education only. Of these, one has been designated as disadvantaged and has been allocated a disadvantaged post. Another is participating in the home-school-community-links scheme and has been allocated 0.5 of a post for this purpose.

I have no proposals at present for designating further schools as disadvantaged. However, I can assure the Deputy that the position of these schools will receive full consideration in the context of any future review of this scheme.
