Vol. 486 No. 3

Written Answers. - Teacher Education.

Richard Bruton

Question:

285 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the plans, if any, he has to arrange post graduate conversion courses to allow secondary teachers to convert to primary teaching; and when the next such course is likely to commence. [2538/98]

The current post-graduate course for the training of primary teachers in the colleges of education commenced in early 1997 and is due to end in June 1998. My Department is currently in consultation with the Higher Education Authority and the authorities of the colleges about arrangements for a further such course.

Further details in relation to the course will be announced when the consultation process is complete.
