Question:151 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be paid his 1995 suckler cow premium grant. [2626/98]

The person named applied for grants under the 1995 suckler cow premium scheme on 31 May 1995. He contacted the local office of my Department on 8 August 1995 stating that he wished to withdraw this application as he did not have sufficient suckler quota and wanted to apply under the second application period. He subsequently applied for premium on 22 cows under the suckler cow premium on 14 November 1995. At an unannounced inspection of his herd on 10 April 1996 only four cows and seven weanlings were found on the holding. Notification of a further inspection was given for 12 April 1996 and when the inspecting officer of my Department called, no cattle were collected for inspection and the person named was not present. Consequently, he was deemed ineligible for payment of 1995 suckler cow premium and he was notified of the decision on 7 May 1996.
