Vol. 486 No. 6

Written Answers. - Rights of the Child.

Liz McManus

Question:

292 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will provide grant aid for the awareness campaign on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child similar to that provided by the Department of Health and Children in view of the commitments made by the Government to the UN Committee on Children's Rights; if so, the amount that will be allocated; and when it will be paid. [3345/98]

The Children's Rights Alliance is seeking funding from the Government for a campaign to raise awareness of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. Over the past year a steering committee comprising representatives of the alliance and of certain Government Departments, including my Department, has been considering means of raising awareness of the convention. An awareness raising campaign has been finalised and the question of my Department making a contribution towards the cost of that campaign is under consideration.
