Vol. 487 No. 2

Written Answers. - Taxi Licences.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

117 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when a case in relation to issuing of a taxi plate (details supplied) will be resolved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3685/98]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 260 of 10 February 1997 which dealt with the background to the difficulties which have arisen in relation to the issue by the Garda authorities of certificates of suitability of wheelchair accessible taxis. The Garda have sought the advice of the Attorney General on the matter. In the circumstances, the issue of the certificates has been suspended.

I wish to assure the Deputy that the Garda are aware of the difficulties resulting from the foregoing and that the matter is being treated as one of urgency.
