Question:

154 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be paid the remainder of his 1997 cattle headage grants in view of the fact that the delay was caused by a mistake in the area aid unit of his Department. [4124/98]

The person named received his full entitlement of £342.45 on 5 December 1997 under the 1997 cattle headage scheme. This amount was limited by his forage area as declared on his 1997 area aid application and was also subject to the overall limit of 1.4 livestock units per forage hectare as set out in Clause 25 of the terms and conditions governing the 1997 cattle headage scheme.

Question:

155 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when a farmer (details supplied) in County Mayo will be paid his 1997 ewe premium and sheep headage grants in view of the fact that he has proof of ownership of the animals. [4125/98]

Following an inspection of the flock of the person named, my Department was not satisfied that all the sheep applied for were in the ownership and possession of the person named on the date of application and consequently he is ineligible for any payment in 1997. He has been notified that he may appeal the Department's decision to the local district inspector.
