Vol. 487 No. 3

Written Answers. - Cabinet Committees.

Liz McManus

Question:

191 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Health and Children the membership of the Cabinet committee established to oversee the work of the interdepartmental working group on abortion; the number of occasions the committee met; when the Green Paper will be published; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4014/98]

The membership of the Cabinet committee is the Minister for Health and Children, chairman, the Minister for Public Enterprise, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, the Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs, and the Attorney General. The committee will shortly meet with the chairman of the inter-departmental working group to review that group's progress to date and to consider the submissions which are currently being received.

As I have stated previously, it is hoped to have the Green Paper completed in June of this year. A definitive date will however depend on the volume and complexity of the submissions received in response to the invitation of views from interested parties.
