Vol. 487 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

202 Ms Coughlan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the funding mechanism now available for the Laghey, Glencolmcille and Ardara sewerage schemes in County Donegal in view of the fact that Cohesion and INTERREG funding are no longer available. [3738/98]

Dinny McGinley

Question:

218 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the proposed sewerage scheme for Laghey, County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4049/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 202 and 218 together.

Over the period of the current National Development Plan 1994-99, sewerage and water schemes approved under my Department's water and sewerage services investment programme are co-financed by the Cohesion Fund, by the Structural Funds under the Operational Programme for Environment Services or the INTERREG 2 Initiative, or are financed entirely by Exchequer funds. The preliminary report of the Laghey sewerage scheme was approved by my Department in 1992. The revised preliminary report for the Ardara sewerage scheme, and contract documents for the Glencolmcille sewerage scheme have been submitted to my Department. Given the high level of commitments under my Department's water and sewerage services investment programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to advance these proposals all of which must rely on being fully funded by the Exchequer.
