Vol. 487 No. 3

Written Answers. - Recycling Projects.

Richard Bruton

Question:

203 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans, if any, his Department has to support the emergence of recycling business; and, if so, whether this will include grant aid to community businesses in this sphere similar to a business (details supplied) in the north inner city. [3739/98]

I refer to the reply to Priority Questions No. 10 on 14 October 1997 as to the measures being taken by my Department to promote waste recycling generally. All financial assistance currently available for recycling projects under the Waste Management Sub-Programme of the Operational Programme for Environmental Services 1994-99 has been allocated.

A separate provision of some £106,000 is contained in subhead D.2.1 of my Department's Vote for 1998 in respect of expenditure on waste management generally. Expenditure from this provision will be applied during this year, subject to sanction of the Department of Finance, to support recycling and or other forms of waste management activity.
