Vol. 487 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Enda Kenny

Question:

223 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the extension of the Erris regional water scheme to serve the area from Carranmore Lake to Glenamoy, Ballina, County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4138/98]

Mayo County Council sought approval in 1992 to have construction commenced on two phases of the Erris regional water scheme — an extension to Bangor Erris and an extension to Glenamoy. Priority was accorded to the extension to Bangor Erris, on which work is now substantially completed. Given the high level of commitments under the water and sewerage services investment programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to approve the extension to Glenamoy.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

224 Ms Coughlan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of sewerage and water schemes with his Department from County Donegal awaiting funding; the names of these schemes; the cost involved; and the length of time these schemes are with his Department. [4140/98]

The information requested is being compiled and will be forwarded to the Deputy as soon as possible.

Question:

225 Mr. Brady asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the proposals, if any, he has received from Fingal County Council for an improved sewerage scheme for Balgriffin, County Dublin; when finance will be approved for this project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4194/98]

A brief for the Balgriffin-Limekiln sewerage scheme has been submitted to my Department. Given the high level of commitments under the water and sewerage services investment programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to advance this scheme under the main programme. However, when account is taken of the contributions likely to accrue from development levies, the scheme may fall within the scope of works funded under the small schemes allocation. Details of allocations under this scheme will be notified to local authorities in the near future.
