Vol. 487 No. 3

Written Answers. - Football Clubs.

Austin Currie

Question:

270 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he has requested from the Garda authorities a report on the implications of the location in west Dublin of the English premier division club, Wimbledon; if so, the content of the report; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4025/98]

The Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed deployment of Garda personnel and resouces, inform me that they are aware of the speculation in relation to the possible move of Wimbledon Football Club to Dublin and they are also conscious of the possible implications of such a move.

In the event of a definite decision being made to move the club to Dublin the Garda authorities will be made aware of the required details at an early stage and they are confident that, in partnership with all concerned, the policing requirements for any such move are well within the capabilities of the Garda Síochána.
