271 Mr. Belton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the position in relation to Longford courthouse; and if he will make a statement on the matter in view of the fact that Longford County Council are anxious for a meeting with him. [4056/98]

My predecessor gave approval for this project in 1995. Since then a number of concerns have been raised by the design team for the project.

In the light of all the circumstances I have asked for a review of the proposal. This review will include the requisite statutory consultations with the Heritage Council which now arise.

I can confirm to the Deputy however that I have agreed to meet a deputation from Longford County Council shortly to discuss the matter.
