Vol. 487 No. 3

Written Answers. - Physical Education Facilities.

Richard Bruton

Question:

292 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will set aside a quota of moneys for the construction of physical education halls in primary schools where there is unlikely to be any classroom extension programme so that they share fairly in the opportunity for new physical education facilities. [3814/98]

While I am anxious to extend the provision of general purpose rooms in schools generally, the provision of essential classroom accommodation is still the priority. My Department will be in a position shortly to proceed with the task of developing a points-based project prioritisation system and the general purpose room issue can be examined in that context.
