*Urban areas are defined as those with a population of 1,500 or more.
The most recent population projections based on the 1991 census of population were published in 1995. They were classified by age and sex. Neither an urban/rural breakdown of the population nor household projections were provided.
It is planned to produce up to date population projections based on the results of the 1996 census later on this year.
The projected population aged over 66 years in 2010 ranges from 433,400 to 439,300 depending on the choice of assumptions used.
