Vol. 487 No. 3

Written Answers. - Marine Emergency Service.

Dick Roche

Question:

95 Mr. Roche asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he will examine the possibility of establishing the headquarters of the recently announced Irish Maritime Emergency Services in Arklow, County Wicklow, as it is a town with a long seafaring tradition which has been devastated by the loss of many of its traditional industries. [3966/98]

I recently announced my intention to develop and identify the Irish Marine Emergency Service of my Department as a national coastguard service. I intend to bring forward specific proposals in this regard later this year.

I have noted with interest the Deputy's suggestion which will be borne in mind when a decision in the matter is being taken.
