Vol. 487 No. 5

Written Answers - Planning Applications.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

116 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of residential planning applications in each local authority for each of the years from 1993 to 1997; and the number of residential planning applications in each local authority refused for the same period. [4475/98]

Comprehensive statistics on the operation of the planning system are published annually by my Department and are available in the Oireachtas Library. Summary statistics are similarly published on a quarterly basis. The annual statistics set out planning applications received in each local authority area by reference to class 1, provision of dwellings, and class 2, alterations to existing dwellings. The data for 1997 will not be available until the compilation of the statistics is completed later in the year. While the statistics set out the aggregate number of planning applications refused in each local authority area, they do not disaggregate refusals as between residential and other applications. Such information is not otherwise available in my Department.
