Vol. 487 No. 6

Written Answers - Registration of Birth.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

187 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason for the delay in the general register office in having a father's name entered onto the birth certificate of his child; the steps, if any, being taken to reduce this inordinate delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4590/98]

The administration of the registration system is a matter for An t-Árd Chláraitheoir (RegistrarGeneral of Births and Deaths) and for local registrars who operate under his general direction. I understand for An t-Árd Chláraitheoir that, without the birth details of the child in question, he is unable to identify the particular application to which the Deputy's question refers. However if the Deputy supplies the necessary details to An t-Árd Chláraitheoir he will have the matter investigated.
