Vol. 487 No. 8

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a notice under Standing Order 31 from Deputy Quinn. I call Deputy Quinn to state the matter on which he has given notice to me.

I request the Adjournment of the Dáil under standing Order 31 to raise a matter of public importance involving the retention by the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment of information that should have been given by her in reply to a parliamentary question and the implication this has for the accountability of the Government to the House.

Having considered the matter fully I do not consider it to be contemplated by Standing Order 31, having regard to the fact that the matter will be dealt with today by way of statements with a question and answer session. Therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.

Will you inform the House when and why that decision was made, when the statements will be taken and whether there will be a contribution——

The Deputy should wait for the Taoiseach's announcement of the Order of Business.

That is a matter for the Order of Business.

Will the Tánaiste be here?

I call the Taoiseach on the Order of Business.

I hope she will be more truthful with the House on this occasion.

Deputy Rabbitte is out of order. We must proceed with the Order of Business.

It has been the convention that the Opposition parties have been circulated in advance with a revised proposal for the Order of Business. We have not received such a revised proposal. When were you informed, Sir, that time would be made available for statements on the issue in question?

The Chair will not be cross-examined on the matter. I call the Taoiseach on the Order of Business.
