Vol. 488 No. 1

Written Answers - Millennium Projects.

Deirdre Clune

Question:

41 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Finance the proposals, if any, he is considering for projects to mark the millennium which would be funded by the Exchequer or by the national lottery reserve; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5593/98]

As I mentioned in my Budget Statement last December, the new millennium will be celebrated in a variety of ways in this country and across the world. However, the Government has not yet formally considered what form the millennium celebrations will take or what level of resources will be made available to that end. Accordingly, the position as stated in my Budget Statement still pertains, that is, that the question of some future contribution to the funding of events to mark the millennium has yet to be settled. Nor has it been decided yet whether such funding should come from the national lottery reserve or from ordinary Exchequer resources.
