Vol. 488 No. 2

Written Answers. - Employment of People with Disabilities.

John Bruton

Question:

115 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance the specific provision, if any, made under the rules and priorities of the European Regional Development Fund funding to facilitate the employment of people with disabilities; and the action, if any, taken to publicise these rules and priorities. [5989/98]

ERDF funding amounting to 22.5 million ecu approximately (1994 prices) is available for the provision of infrastructure under the improvement of the quality of training provision measure of the Human Resources Operational Programme. This is intended to complement the ESF funding for training of people with disabilities under that programme. Responsibility for implementing and publicising the measure rests with the implementing agency, namely, the National Rehabilitation Board.

There is also a small amount of European Regional Development Fund funding available under the horizon strand of the employment community initiative to complement ESF funding of projects designed to, among other things, promote independence and alternatives to institutionalisation and the development of commercially viable enterprises. Responsibility for co-ordination of his initiative rests with the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
